Ah, the radio! I found it and that did the trick for the no map updates trouble. Thanks guys.

Now if only I could hit destroyers! I'm having decently good success on merchant shipping inside 1500 yards, but the destroyers seem to see my torps instantly and accelerate so I miss them by a ship length to the stern, almost no matter what. I launch from 750 yards and lead them by 2 to 5 degrees on the TDC, but I *still* mostly miss to the stern. I guess eventually with experience I'll get a better feel for how much to lead them as a function of my distance at launch.

(And once they start zig-zagging and changing course constantly, I can't hit them no matter what, so I just dive and run away. Do folks eventually get good enough to engage them if they're aware of you and turning a lot?)

Oh - the other trouble I have is identification. If the ship is moving fast (say, 15+ knots) I generally have to pause to leaf through the ident manual, which doesn't react very fast. And early on you only have a poor bow-on view which isn't good enough to tell which type it is, so you have to do it at a larger aspect angle. I want to get so I can do this without having to cheat with pause.

This is a cool game. Brings back memories of playing Silent Service on a C64
