Default Same old tired song

OK Guys,
Help me out here! I love the Silent Hunter series, got III, IV and there great! Even with all the bugs. The mods are exceptional. But why should I buy another,,, "German side",,,, sub game, when I already have two,?
Is it because the water is going to be pretty?, or maybe I can actually walk through the engine room, "no other rooms added that I know of" but not interact with any thing? I don't know about this Guys, somebody please sell me on the game! For now my money stays in my pocket. Indy

We cant sell you game we havent played yet.

Yes its another U boat sim, but it looks like there will be some big improvments over the previous games (not just graphics)
But TBH, info on SHV it still in short supply.

As for "why should I buy another one" - the same argument applies to sequels in any game franchise. Its just how these things progress and most people want more of the same. SH3 and 4 are great - but they are far from perfect.

Anyway its not really for anybody to sell it to you. What impresses me, might not impress you - so their is no point going down that road.
Its your call, just wait for the release, read some reviews and THEN make a decision.

If you ever wanted to experience 'Das Boot' with you as the Captain, this is your chance.

The reason you should buy it is because this is the first in the Silent Hunter series to alter the grammar of the way that the player interacts with the sim. That's what's important here. Things like water and cloud textures and all the other modable visual enhancements are just the cherry on the cake.

You should get another because the developers of SH5 need a job. Come on, help out your fellow earth person!

Why buy it?
Because this release is gonna be BIG. As they've said, it's a revolution on the level that SH3 was when compared to SH2.

Also, buying it, you support the further improvement of a franchise which other corporations would have already given up on. The more SH titles we get, the closer we get to perfection, and that's what in the end we all seek.

When you state
Quote:
got III, IV and there great! Even with all the bugs.
....a statement many hard core simmers would disagree with I suspect.

You then go on to state
Quote:
The mods are exceptional.
This suggests to me you are probably an avid sub simmer, someone who is already addicted to the genre like so many others here.

I think a more appropriate question by you might have been "Why shouldn't I buy SH5?"

I'm quietly confident you'll enjoy SH5 as much as I hope to.

SINK EM ALL!!

Its your choice. Its an interesting genre. Having gotten to know the folks involved it becomes a more personal experience. I plan on buying four copies and giving 3 away just as I did with SH4. I also followed up with the folks I gave them too, making sure they patched up and then getting them the UBM update so they could have SH4 1.5. If you really like this genre it is important to support the Devs and Publisher with $$$.

I think that the hours of game play I have gotten from SH4 have been well worth it after the expenditure.

Speaking of updates/add-on....I would hope that UBI would see fit to make an add-on for fleetboats just as they made the add-on of u-boats for SH4. I think that is fair. What say you?

i disagree here,

it was only through mods that the german side holds any real attraction to me and it was completely devoid of any real effort to add the german side in my opinion. it had no missions, syxx killer had to add them with his mod, and it had only 2 subs, lurker had to create the operation monsun mod to add more german subs and a true german campaign to the game. all they did was supply the "bones" for modders to create a german side which i was greatfull for but still extremely dissappointed in it as released as far as the german side goes.

i believe they made a repair patch to improve the game and needed a way to recover the cost of doing this so in order to create some justification to "sell" it they had to call it an expansion and not a patch.

following this train of thought, i believe they asked themselves what could we do that was differtent enough to say its something new? well they can add 2 uboats and throw together a few quick campaign files for them and say "look its uboats now"

i will never be convinced it wasnt something along these lines because of how little german content was in this supposed german expansion.

dont get me wrong, its worth the $10 i paid just for the game improvements and they could delete all the german content (what little there is) and i would still buy it but if any new expansion for sh5 to add american content is done with the same lack of effort used to add german content in the ubm expansion then please dont bother. i only want it if it has some real effort behind it so itreally does add something to the game.

also i dont think this was the devs making these decisions but the ubi suits calling these shots as to budget and time which is why the devs (who im sure wanted to do more) were very limited in what they could do.

I believe I am on record stating the same since day one of the SH5 announcement

If I'm to be totally honest......this is possibly the best response on the topic I have read .......I concur 100%

If you mean PTO theatre, i think it would be too much work for an expansion, the PTO campaign is VAST and warrents its own full game TBH.

However some U.S & Royal Navy subs in ATO/MED would be great! Id love to play the ATO as allies for a change! (Im pretty sure a handfull of US fleet boats operated there?)

British Subs make sense in an expansion, as they are the underdog of WW2 Submarine history they will never justify having a 'stand alone' SH product built around them.
But intrestingly, a complete RN sub campaign would require the PTO as they served there also...so I dunno.

Without PTO, or RN subs, I'll support, but not like.

For Genders sake. A sub on sub attack, should be A feature.
