No, it just means the next meeting will be in North America, somewhere.

NY is kinda pricey isn't it ? CT is sounding better all the more.

Anybody scared of eating something with claws, there's always McDonalds.

I was there the summer of 08' , four blocks from Central Park was 300.00 a night, but it was split four ways ( was there with some childhood friends ). We were going to get a spot outside the city, but staying in the heart of NYC was well worth it. An amazing spot for sure.

I agree. But what about the meet. Nobody will want to sit in a room.

Not with all that nitelife.

Lot's of spots to go, you just have to know where. First night there, four beers, forty bucks , but you live and learn. We ended up stumbling across some nice, and inexpensive watering holes

It has to be some rules about what a country or a city must have, before it can apply for holding the next Olym...er... Subsim meeting.

Neal,
Just for posterity, may I suggest a listing in this thread of previous Subsim meetings, what vessels were seen and what other major Subsim activities were on the schedule.
If I'm going to pitch San Diego as a location, I may not include paintball but I could offer an alternative (eg: San Diego Zoo) to entice those who have been to other meetings.

AVG, I assume you mean lobsta and you'll probably want some chowda with that. For that you should go north for 2 hours from Groton to Kittery ME and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. They have several sub museums however the main one on the base, which honors Squalus and Thresher, has been closed to the public since 9-11. You need a US military ID (active, reserve or retired) to enter.

USS Albacore - http://www.ussalbacore.org/

Kittery Naval museum - http://www.kitterymuseum.com/

John Paul Jones house - http://seacoastnh.com/touring/jpjhouse.html

Shipyard museum (US Military ID only) - http://www.goseacoast.com/detail.ihtml?lid=125&catID=51

Also within driving distance of Groton and on the way to Battleship cove is the Naval War College museum in Newport RI at the site of the old torpedo development and testing station

Many good places so far but, 2010 airfare prices could blow many if not all out of the water. (pun intended)

Airfare prices are directly connected to oil prices.

No date for meet has even been decided unless I missed something.

The room & board issue can always be worked out.

How big a turn out do you want ?

The when is more important than the where imho.

If the WHEN is to be discussed/decided, I'll propose thursday October 14th till Sunday October 17th 2010, and why? Well, that is usually the autumn vacation week for many in Denmark, at least those in schools and universities. I don't know with other European countries, but it may be the same...
