Hello? Anyone home?

You assume, as your post implies that you have had experience with those nasty submarine nets, that EVERYONE has the misfortune to be trapped in one.

I went back to the same port today, in broad daylight. I snuck into the harbor. Sunk one destroyer that was recorded as a kill and sunk another that the was not recorded (I have never encountered that before). Then I hit the Taiho and a light carrier, both anchored, putting them under. I snuck away at a crawl, dodged a patrolling destoryer, dodged airplanes near Japan, and when I was on my way to Midway ran into a large convoy. What to do? Bring a fight to the convoy, or play it save and get a medal.

I had 4 forward and 1 aft torpedoes in reserve, so I attacked. (They don't pay me to save my ass just so I can write war stories to enthrall Subsim captains!). I plotted the convoy's course, set up ahead, and sunk two Akita freighters in a midnight attack. I was in the process of bringing the boat around to fire my aft torpedoe when the sound on loud pinging told me the party was over. Time to exit, stage right. I crash dived safely but was sunk by depth charges at 300 + feet. My Balao would not dive to 400 feet fast enough! I had been on hot streak, even though it was a replay. Two carriers (17,000 and 11,000 tons), two destroyers, two Akita Maurus, and finally, one Balao (with me in it) - gone forever.

I remember my first experience with SubNets. Was sneaking into Manilla to do some photo recon, it was very stormy so I had a bit of trouble with destroyers (one emerged out of the fog at 200m! Thought I was doomed, but he must have been as surprised as me.) I was nearing the Carriers, decided that I might as well raise my Observation Scope, and as it's halfway up I see one right infront of me. I had never seen one before and so ordered back emergency. Stopped no more than five feet from it.
