Thanks God SH5 is "all new code"!!

The game is 6 months or so from release, whats done is done.
Judge the SHV on its own merrit when you get to play it.
Worrying about it makes no difference, (and making threats is just being childish)

I found this sentence from the devs on the ubi forum:

Code:
We’ve changed the water and terrain rendering engine, solving the bugs that prevented this in the previous version and increasing the rendering distance too.
to me, this sounds like they took the old engine with new elements. this gives them more time to think about new features an d more time for beta testing, i think...

Some of you will be eating their own words when the next screenshots are posted .

"Uhmmm.... Ok, it's not SH4. Definitly not SH4. "

I hope it won't be me tho...

in my opinion (because its the fastest and the least expensive thing to do) they just dumped sh3 data into sh4 game engine to replace all of the fleetboat stuff and then started the process of working out the kinks and making changes to the game itself.

lets give them the benefit of the doubt that they will be going back over it and "premod" the game to make all the needed improvements they can
i got this reply:

But at least there keeping the file structure.

Reece, what is not to like about SH4 (ok, no list please )? I love SH4. Not just for the PTO but the graphics are excellent. After all the modding the game is great to play. It runs flawlessly on my Vista machine. Anyway, from what I gather a lot of SH4 will be found in SH5.

Not to mention the vastly superior crew management and overall stability, ease of adding new ships without the horrific loading times, better time compression and the way they changed the radio screen to a pop-up wherever you are. There are things I think could have been done better, and some I think they messed up big-time, but overall it's a great improvement.

Well I had just installed for the fifth time with OM + OMEGA, also tried OM + RSRD, and still has many bugs, I could do some fixes for some and work around for others but the biggest thing is twice the computer reset itself in each version listed above, the second time I ended up with HDD Index errors, so bad that I had to re-ghost my machine, in doing so I lost some of my files, and I only got to play the nav training mission. So you must understand the frustration, my system is fairly new:
AMD Athlon X2 7750 Black Edition
Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe Motherboard
Creative X-fi Xtreme sound
HIS IceQ4 Turbo ATI HD 4850 512mb video card
4mb Kingston ram
Win XP Pro
If I had to try again it would mean a total install again!!

Could always be bad parts too. When I built my parents computer a few years back I got a bad board and CPU right outta the box.

Well I can run games like Crysis, Far Cry 2, Trainz 2006, SOF3, Turok, BlackSite, Ship sim 2008, etc, with no problems, though some not recently, maybe one of my ram sticks has died, I did have all the settings in the game set to max, maybe someone with OM can try the nav training school, both reboots happened here, got to about way point 6 the second time.

Don't worry mate. SH4 gives me soft reboots too. And it seems to be the only game that does it too. I don't know why.

I vaguely remember having trouble with the training school after installing mods. So i never did the training after that . I just went straight to the campaign .
