Georgia is one of the most silliest and insane "allies" one could pick. It even is no ally, I would say, but an imposter trying to make a bigger player dancing to his tune in order to bully another bigger player. The Russians are expected to behave stupid and weak, and are demanded to accept provokations like America would never accept Russia to provoke them in America's close regional areas. Georgia is a conservative and dogmatic America's hobby to provoke Russia in its backyard, but it is as as enlightened an project as was this "beacon of democracy" thing.

America has far greater worries than Georgia, or to provoke unneeded conflicts with the Russians over things of almost zero interest. To hell with Saakashvili and his crimes, lies and anti-democratic regime. It's neither America's nor the West's business to deal with him - but the Georgians' business, and only theirs. It's their country, let them clean it up instead of helping their supressor to restrengthen his regime.

Right now Saakashvili lets georgian warships run a blockade of Abchasien ports. Of course he does not listen to Russia's warnings to stop while there still is time. He wants to provoke another war like he has already launched the last one and authorised the intended targetting of sleeping civilians in their houses by heavy artillery and missiles batteries, so that he can jump up high again, making himself omnipresent on every Western TV news channel and yell "I am the victim, I am the victim, I have done nothing, NATO must come to my rescue and give those evil warmongering russians a spanking!" He is just a lieing criminal thug having his own people against him and violently supressing the democratic opposition in his own country, so finally understand that.

Hell, even the EU, that prematurely was supporting him in the war, has found him to be guilty for having triggered last year's war and authorizing war crimes, in an official report ordered by the EU commission. Even the EU now leaves him alone in deeds and treaties. If even the brain-slow and reality-distanced EU understands something correctly, then this really means something.

Chose your priorities wisely. Georgia is none, and means only costs, not returns. And the last thing we need is American and Russian soldiers shooting at each other because a criminal thug like Saakashvili made them to in name of violent ultra-nationalism. Georgia is not worth a single NATO soldier's health. It's not our playground. Let the Russians stabilise the region (and struggle with that , hehe). The place is much dearer to them, than to us. Stability is so many times more important in the Caucasus than making Georgia part of NATO and have another row over that with Russia (whose good will America needs more on both a global and UN level than the Russians need America).
