the devs were saying they were making sh5 to cater to the masses and they were aware that in this economy it wasnt a good idea to force people to upgrade systems just to be able to play the game so my "guess" about what we will see would be some type of a multi platform application that works with xp and vista and dx9 friendly

I don't know. I've heard that developers are really trying to phase out XP/DX9, much like the painful 98SE to XP transition. I hope that you are correct, though, as a lot of people are still hanging on to XP.

Im sure it will support DX9&DX10 much like other games have... You will just not get the some effects.

DX10 looks absolutely amazing in some games, whether or not SH3 is or not won't influence my purchase. It's not all about the graphics when it comes to a subsim, good immersion beats overly good graphics any day

I have lots of games that have an option in the setting to use DX10 features. Just because it may support DX10 doesn't mean you won't be able to play it on Windows XP/DX9 machines.

So it is very likely that Silent Hunter 5 will offer improved visuals by way of DX10 enabled features.

The game will run on Windows 7, even the 64bit edition.

Win7 includes DX11. Been playing both DX9 and DX10 games on the beta and RC (build 7000 & 7100), working great.
