Default 3D modeling programs for Mod.

Hey all, first post on this forum. I have dabbled around with a few freeware modeling programs. Blender 2.45, gmax, etc. Anyone know the format that the 3d models are in for SH4 and what modeling program works best to create the SH4 models? I am contemplating making a Type 212 U-boat, that new diesel electric from Germany that has the fuel cell drive. Could add an interesting aspect to the gameplay in SH4 without being all too powerful like the nuclear 688 LA class, which dominates anything in the game (an excellent and very fun add on i might add).

Welcome to Subsim !

the format used is .obj

there are quite a few free modeling programs out there, I know SH427 uses misfit, I use 3DS 9.

Yep .obj it is. There's a tutorial around here somewhere about importing/exporting models with S3D. Oh, and glad you like the 688i and are looking to start your own bit of modding.

sunstorm87,

The SH4 models are in a proprietary format (nearly the same as in SH3). However, this format was decoded by us, modders (I am actually the person who made the first clone of the SH3 model by hand and imported the very first third party 3D model to SH3 Those were exciting times). There is a program called S3D written by skwasjer which can import the .OBJ format models to the SH4 format but you better read the manual for the program how to do it properly.
