Most laptops have "blue keys" ... you hold down the "Function" (Fn) key while pressing whatever key has a blue label. The Numpad "Del" key is also the Numpad "." key ... try using the corresponding Function key and see if it hides the orders bar.

If it doesn't work, you can remap keys by editing the (IIRC) "commands.cfg" file.
