I guess Texas is cool ..considering that they swim an ocean that's more like a pond and surrounded almost entirely by land. |

Because "whites" ever since this country was created, didn't have any advantage over American Indians ,Hawaiians and Eskimos..(you know people who are actually NATIVE TO THIS LAND CALLED AMERICA) correct? And lets not forget the Blacks who's forefathers were dragged to this country.Or the Hispanics were work in the fields and build your homes for the minimum of wages yet at one point owned much of what is now the Western United States! All in the name of Manifest Destiny correct? |

Texas has no state income tax. Cali has a high one.
Texas has a lower sales tax rate than does Cali. The property taxes in Texas are high, but those in CA per "home" are at least as high. Registering your vehicle in Texas is much cheaper than in Cali. Texas is friendly to business. Cali insists on taxing and regulating them nearly to death. Texas has minimal social engineering. Cali is a HQ for the practice. Texas encourages and celebrates self reliance. Cali fosters dependence, which is doubled down in many parts of the state, such as the Bay area. Texas and Cali are both blessed with natural resources. Texas encourages their responsible development. Cali wants the gasoline for its many motor vehicles, but does not want to "risk" its coast line or allow refineries. Texas has a very imperfect governor who is too often a conduit to big business and special interest, including a Spanish limited partnership which has a major stake in his toll road sell out. Most don't know that Republican governor Perry received only 39% of the vote in the last election, which featured two strong independent candidates. Had the Democrats had the good sense to run a conservative member of their party (as was common in the 1960's and 1970's), they probably would have won. CA has an irresponsible legislature, which can not spend enough money. It's a foreshadowing of our national future. Both Texas and Nevada, whose taxes are even lower than Texas, have received an influx of former Californians. Many more will come for tax and business reasons as the boomers age. We hope that the committed liberals fleeing the Golden State will go north to Oregon. Last edited by KG_Jag; 08-24-09 at 08:03 PM. Reason: typo and tags |

Obviously you didn't get the memo, it's already over.
I've lived in San Diego and Houston. I've seen it all. Walking in Galveston I saw someone carrying a surfboard. I chuckled and asked "What are you planning to do with that?" When he said "surf" I thought he must really be a great surfer, because he was going to have to paddle about 1,800 miles to find a decent wave. Walking in San Diego I saw a guy with a Stetson, a belt buckle as big as a hubcap, topped off with shorts and flip-flops. I asked where he was from and he said "Hoooston" I replied, "really? which planet?" |
