I think I've read somewhere that if, for example, you sink the Hood or whatever big one several times as they respawn, you only get tonnage and renown once. If I understood well.

The uboat war was against the merchants, not the battleships, you get more reknown for sinking a big merchant ship or troop carrier than you do for a battleship as it is seen as more important overall.

Very good point of view...

If you want to know a bit more about the GWX renown system then read this post: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...9&postcount=11

It does not take into account new ships that you may add by different mods so it will never be a complete list but it gives you an idea about how it works.

Another thing to remember is that these numbers are the total renown if played at 100% realism. Any reduction of the realism settings will reduce the renown received for sinking each ship.

I hope this explains your "lack" of renown.

Is that per ship class or per ship tonnage?

Exampe, will an empire-type freighter always be wort the same amount of renown, no matter if its 1 ton or 1,000 tons?

It is handled by the ship ID. If you reset the tonnage for an Empire Freighter to 1 ton and leave the renown setting alone the renown will be the same regardless of the tonnage.

Ok, I followed your adwise. I madea another insane attack to Southend (Near London). I sank 2 Large Troopships (Passenger Liners) 1 Modern Tanker, 1 Liberty Cargo. Thats about 65000 tons.

And again. Only 1000 renown (note that I sank few destroyers)

Did you bother to read post #13? Given the sinkings I suspect that it is the realism level you are playing at that is causing your "problem".

Judging by your high number of sinkings, especially of rather prestige targets, I suspect you're playing on low realism which will as previously mentioned yield low renown. Crank up the realism abit and you'll see it mount up faster, not that it matters a huge amount any way tbh.

Yes, I was playing with low realism and acoustic torpedoes

So more realism means more renown?

i only use renown for rank, otherwise it doesn't play much part of my game, i've created my own little "Wallmart subs" file which just alters the cost of all items in the game. that way i don't have to worry about things costing the earth and getting demoted...

base ship renown value * ( (0.75 * realism %) + 0.25 bonus ).

I would think sinking a HOOD or any battleship would be worth more then sinking a merchant ship.

I guess in RL sinking A BB would be a big reward..but in this sim sinking a battleship is a waste of time since Germany lost or would lose the war anyways. AND GERMANY LOST THE NORTH ATLANTIC TO THE BRITISH LONG BEFORE THE WAR WAS OVER so knocking out a BB in this game is a waste of time apperently.

IMO..sinking a BB with escorts should give you more reknown then any merchant ship.

But then I don't hunt for Merchants I hunt for capital ships.

It is. See post #13 in this thread. Most BB's yield up to 1500 renown, the largest merchant in the list linked from that post yields around 400.
