I guess you don't know the Captain. If we are not sinking ships we are painting, polishing, mopping and washing windows. (although I haven't been able to find the windows yet)

Well, AFAIK, the textures are 85% done, I fixed some issues (the hull rivets stopping at the bow and stern) and I made a darker texture. And doing a bit of studying, they never did use a REALLY dark blue

problem is, this darker texture is so dark it almost blots out the details on the texture itself. But I also reduced the amount of above waterline rust, to the point where she looks like she's been repainted, but she's been in the water a while.

EDIT: okay, just read the Ship Camouflage database and discovered that the Narwhal Class carried the Measure 9 (all black) scheme from 41-45.

Measure 9 painted sub :

Quote:
Vertical Surfaces:

Paint entire submarine above the waterline black, formula 82. The painting shall be carried over all parts which are visible for the air including the numbers, capstan and running light boards and bridge rails. The radio insulators shall be dark. The shall be no boot topping. The underbody shall be painted with the current issues of bottom antifouling paints.

Horizontal Surfaces:

All horizontal surfaces except wood decks shall be painted Dark Gray 5-D. The systems differ only in the painting of the vertical surfaces. In case of doubt, as on sloping surfaces, use Dark Gray 5-D.

Glass windows shall be covered or removed, especially during the day in sunny weather, and at night when anticipating searchlight discovery

I like the idea of All Black, but it would've looked better in blue .

as for the shininess issue try and darken the AO map, that should help.

also : wasn't a black sub more likely to be spotted in the clear waters of the pacific, a bit like the Med, than a blue one ?

well, the mindset was the darker the boat, the harder it is to see on the surface at night. of course, only on the darkest of the moonless nights was the boat invisible, so they soon discovered that a lighter gray boat was harder to spot on the water at night.
for some odd reason though, they did not implement these changes on the Narwhal and Nautilus. better for me, the mastah paintah!

and I don't have an issue with the shininess.

also, I tried blue, and the proper shades were destroying the details of the texture, so that's why I decided against it.

I moved all the nodes (water running, etc even included 3 on the upper gun deck, you will only see them run when you are in a storm or surfacing, but it looks a lot better) so I beg of you keltos, next .dat I send to you, please take note of the nodes' placement
