does anybody know how I can switch the map contact updates on whilst using OLC Gold? I understand that this option is supposed to be turned OFF when using this mod, but I think this will help me learn the attack disc etc. much quicker. this is how it is demonstrated in OLC's video tutorial.
thanks for any help with this. |

Not anymore. Since Gold (or some version of it anyway) OLC made chages to the way short-range mapcontacts are displayed if it is allowed (no checkmark in the realism setting). But it won't help you much in learning manual targeting since the contacts only appear when zoomed out to a certain level. He intended it as an overview of the situation rather than using it to measure positions. I don't know how to alow them at deeper zoomlevels though.

Open maps.cfg found at data\Menu\cfg. I think that if you reduce the value of the parameter "SymbolZoom" might do the job.
Code:
[Map0] MapID=Navigation_map Position=0,0 Resolution=1024,656 MajorSqrs=4,2.52 MinorSqrs=5,5 PixPerUnit=50 ZoomLevels=10,20,50,100,200,500,1000,2000,4000,7000,10000,20000;,40000; meters per pixel InitialZoom=10 SymbolZoom=500;units are drawn as symbols from this zoom up GroupsZoom=500;units are drawn in groups from this zoom up CityZoom=7000;city names are hidden from this zoom up KriegZoom=2000;krieg labels are separated displayed from this zoom up HarborZoom=500;harbors will be hidden from this zoom up

how do you guys find the position of your own Uboat?
I ask, because the icon for the UBoat is also not visible. |

Hi h.sie.
Do you mean "mark" the Uboat's position (rather than find)?

I usually zoom in to the smallest navmap scale but in fact i never mark the position of the Uboat on the navmap. So, when i mark the position of a ship on the navmap i always do this after when i have fully zoomed-in. What exactly do you have in mind, may i ask?

I'm not very familiar with target course plotting (but want to learn it). so my beginners thoughts are to plot the target's course the following way:
1) reading the absolute position of my sub from the nav map. 2) finding range and bearing of the target, relative to my position. 3) knowing 1) and 2) I can easily calculate the absolute position of the target and plot it into the nav-map. 4) doing the procedure 1) - 3) at least two times allows me to find the course and speed of the target. |

I usualy have a waypoint placed on the map, so the beginpoint of the line allways points to my uboat. And if you zoom out it should show your uboat icon. But that isn't practical for plotting because the drawing will be to small.
