I got a straight razor today when I visited the local antique shop, being the traditionalist I am.
I just got out of the shower, and just got done shaving my pretty face (mainly just a trim, I like my goatee) and WOW! considering I got this thing for a couple bucks, thats one amazing shave! I'm going to take to our little barbershop, with any lucky he wont be busy and maybe he can sharpen it further for me. Its truly amazing the quality you get from one of these things, mines made by Dixie Manufacturing Company in Union City, GA. wonderful buy! ![]() theres tutorials online so you don't slit your throat while youre shaving. which is always a plus

Screw shaving, I prefer the close cut of a flamethrower.

I'm way too chicken for a straight razor, plus way too time crunched most mornings.
But I did buy a Merkur safety razor: ![]() Plus a nice badger bristle brush and real save soap...not that drugstore stuff out of a can. The difference is amazing. I pay pennies for replacement blades and no more razor burn! Of course there is a little learning curve, and the first time you use it you'll probably end up looking like you shaved with a chainsaw, but after a couple days you get the hang of it. I wouldn't go back to shaving any other way!

I love how they keep adding blades to the damn things, I'm waiting for the 10 blade razor that takes most of your face off on the first pass. Personally i prefer single or double edge blades. Any more then that and it will tend to irritate my face.

Precisely why I went back the other way! One blade, close shave, no irritation.

I, too, use the Gillette Fusion (5-blade). I got it as a birthday present last year and have been hooked ever since, as it is absolutely the best razor that I have ever had. However, the blade price is quite painful. I think I'll look into that one, AVG.

I would not say the Magnum is better than the Fusion. I think the Fusion is a far superior blade however you pay the price. The Magnum is not as smooth but the price is much lower and I can overlook that aspect. The Magnum does come with straight edge for hard to reach places.
