![]() ![]() 1. The topredos tubes that one see at the pic from the victor class being scrap, are external tubes? 2. What is the Cod Eye system? (And why that name, if you know the translation to portuguese you would be ![]() And also, why the russian always design their's subs, or some classes, with windows at the sails? |

COD EYE is a designation given by nato i do believe and i dont know why they called it that but its a guidence system i do believe thats a radar not 100% on cod eyes or whatt they do.
I dont think they are external tubes that may be the frot of theboatil have a look it maybe something completely diffrent. And alot of russian submairnes have windows in the sail because it doubles up as a bad weather bridge and is safer to have the man inside rather than on top on the sail andpossibly be washed away (it has happened before)

Yes very good and rare pictures Kapitan ... thank you kindly
From just looking at the mast mounted "cod eye" it resembles the american submarine version of "top hat" a rear view look at what is coming up your stern or a hindsight sonar. When I was a young submarine sailor the most asked question is "what do you see out of those windows?" People just couldn't understand what life must have been like on a submarine so they thought we sat around all of the time looking out of the windows ... lol. My boat had them too ... we were bulit for the north alantic to operate as a radar picket submarine. USS Salmon SSR-573 ![]() USS Salmon SS-573 after puffs sonar added radar removed April 1965 ![]()
