Both SH3 and SH4 are NOT consistent with TC... .

As mentioned.. only use high TC's when transiting to and fro from patrol areas. I rarely go above 256x when patrolling active areas and when in combat try not to go above 8x.

Too many bad things can happen when you use TC while engaging a target... this is just another example... but the inconsistencies are a bit strange.

My best advise, Donut

Both, you Magic,& Vanjast are bright, intelligent,& observant. This is just a computer simulation game program, not war,not real, but emserive quite. Your question,his/my answers, are deep thinking, sometimes paranoid about enemy's ability,& why ? Thanks for asking,"PS By the way why are you up at this time of night, me, It is too nice a night to sleep through. Maybe to hot in NM." Just called it a nite @ 3 AM . Was detected @ 450Ft running silent, fired a fish at 6300Yds.he evaded, he saw it coming. Now he is keeping me down. The game engine AI. always knows your proximity. Sometimes it doesn't tell the enemy AI. like the Sonar-man was in the head leaving a dump perhaps, human ! Thxs., for caring.Loving the game since SH1, Donut

This problem goes all the way back to SH1, though I don't know why since they're not really related except by name. In that game you would spend a long time evading, be several miles away with the destroyers having their tails to you. Go to any TC to get it over with and they would instantly do an about-face and rush right back to your position. Once they were about 10 miles off you were safe, but any closer than that? Don't try it.

I don't know why it still does it in SH4, nor why it only does it sometimes. But there it is.

The problem is with any game that uses complex mathematical computations to determine movement and outcome. Why? Because the computations are on-going and dependent on the amount of data available, per cycle. For example:
  • At normal speed, a ship's location and condition might be computed every few feet ... 'cause that's how far it travels in a single cycle of the computer.
  • At compressed speed, a ship might travel a mile or two between cycles. Ergo, the computation is less precise.
Using time compression is like taking a high resolution photo and reducing the dots per inch by half or a quarter or less. You get less definition ... less accuracy ... more ambiguity. In other words, more errors.

Thanks all, Those things may very well be it. I was just wondering if anyone else had encountered similar events.

Maybe that escort crew was working 8 times faster and that is why they found me.

The thing with the Yamato still bugs me but that was way back in stock.

Guess I'll just stay away form TC above 4X when reasonably close to targets.

Good luck and good hunting to all

Magic
