I don't know what you are looking for, but in the movie The Cain Mutinity (1954), the protaganists visited Admiral Nimitz on a CV. The film was done after WWII and the carrier used was the USS Franklin, as I remember.

There's another Korean war movie called "Men of the Fighting Lady" starring Van Johnson. Not a bad flick but I'm not sure if you can get it on DVD. Still hanging on to my VHS player until it is.

There's also "A Wing and a Prayer" starring Don Ameche and you'll recognize Harry Morgan as well. Has some great shots of Avengers and Helldivers taking off and landing although the film takes place prior and during the battle of Midway.

I guess it depends on what you consider an Aircraft Carrier Movie.

Are you including any movie that includes scenes of aircraft carriers or does the movie have to be about the carrier?

I would venture that I mean the aircraft carrier is endemic to the
plot.

Thirty Seconds over Tokyo (1944)

There are a few carrier scenes in The Hunt for Red October.

I could mention Pearl Har----no I won't.

Flat Top and Wing and A Prayer were two excellent carrier movies

The Bridges at Toko-Ri, has got to be one of the best carrier flicks ever made. Goes into some excellent detail on carrier ops, flying and has some seriously good combat footage from the Korean War in it too!

IMHO a must see for anyone into naval aviation.

A real oldie is Hell Divers from 1931. Dunno if you can still get it anywhere but is worth a look if nothing else than from the historical value of pre-WWII carrier ops.

Another one with some interesting pre-war fottage is Dive Bomber starring Errol Flynn.

At the end of WWII they made an 8 min short called The Ship That Would Not Die about the USS Franklin in WWII after it was all but destroyed in attacks by the Japanese in 1945.

You can pick the eyes out of this if you are keen: http://www.imdb.com/keyword/aircraft-carrier/

At the time it was a good flick if you disregard the time travel thing. The F-14 footage was awesome for the time, and in my opinion more realistic than 'top gun'.

Yes...the movie that may not be mentioned. We all know what it was about. It's that film about the historic Dec 7th, 1941 Japanese attack on an American Love Triangle.

Not to mention all of those 1970s era Oliver Hazzard Perry class frigates which must have been sunk that fateful day.
