Are American Kids Becoming Obese?

Sad but true story.

I am 6'2" and I am a big guy. In addition to being a big guy, I also happen to sport quite the gut. I tip the scales at about 250.

The Frau has this friend whose 11 year old daughter is only 15 pounds less than I am.

The 11 year old is about 5' nothing and is weighing in about 230+.

And her mother claims that she has done all she can and that it is no big deal anyway.

I grew my handsome gut long after I became an adult so I have no one to blame but myself. But what kind of parent would blow off an 11 year old girl getting to 230+. "It is no big deal". What is going to happen to that kid when she gets to high school and the rest of the kids get really mean to her?

I just find that irresponsible parenting (or a complete lack of parenting actually).

Maybe the Mother can stop buying her daughter TWO McDonalds meals for dinner? Maybe just one or better yet, how about no McDonalds except for special occasions?
