![]() Three must reads for US subs in the PTO 1.Thunder Below by Gene Fluckey CO of the Barb 2.Wahoo by Richard O'Kane XO on this sub but tells about Mush 3.Clear the Bridge by Richard O'Kane CO for the Tang I have read Thunder Below 3 or 4 times cover to cover my copy has foot notes and sections underlined by me all though out it.

Most of those mentioned here were written fairly recently. It is interesting to go back and read those published earlier. My recommendation if you can find it is War Fish by George Girder copyright 1958; Library of Congress number 58-7863

I have a couple of suggestions:
The Fleet The Gods Forgot by W.G. Winslow Submarine Diary by Corwin Mendenhall The first book covers the naval retreat right after Pearl Harbor and describes some very dark days of WWII. The second is a personal journal kept by a young submarine officer aboard a U.S. fleet boat and his WWII Career. Check them out! You'll enjoy them, too. ![]() |
