Wow... very cool movies. It is obvious a lot of work went into them. My thanks for sharing them, Kapitan Phillips.

While watching these I also came across this...

That one was awesome.

Now, if I only knew which movie title that was, and I could speak Russian.

Really NOT great.

Silent Hunter should not be about playing Nazi wannabe. There is nothing glorious, nothing valorous about being a member of the Kriegsmarine, ESPECIALLY that flag, personally designed by Adolf Hitler as an emblem of brute force, intimidation and violence, directed first at his "own" people and then at the world.

Real German U-Boat veterans are completely at odds with the wannabes around here in condemning the Nazi cause and denying that in any way they were heroes, valorous, glamorous, admirable or anything but shills for a despicable cause. Why would we dishonor the wishes of those who fought and seek to make heroes of them and then play the part ourselves. It's disgusting.

This is not an attack on SH3 or the U-Boat side of SH4, as any who know me don't need to be told. It is strictly about those who treat Naziism as a Star Trek opportunity to dress up in the uniform, portray themselves as the characters, affect the mannerisms and language, actually pretending to become the object of their admiration. Spock? Questionable but harmless. Affecting the above icon? Disgusting. At least it is condoning thuggery, at most it is perverting history by portraying Nazis as people who petted their cats, hugged their wives, loved "Little House on the Prairie" and just looked cool.

Talent and ability, good judgment and courage in service of evil is no heroism and deserves no admiration any more than Jeffrey Dahmer deserves admiration for the skillful way he could carve a corpse.

Gimme a break.
Real nazis was from SS mostly, not mentioning that part of officer crew who share ideology with fuhrer, but they are belong to SS again also NSDAP.
Personally my look on Kreigsmarine is simple - It is a usual navy service on the wrong side of the force and i think that many people share my point of view, even this one who in your eyes looks like nazi wannabe.

That ain't a shamrock or a care bear on his flag there. Stuff means stuff.

A man I respect very much will have nothing to do with Subsim because a few pretend goosesteppers trot around siggy pictures like the guy above and

this piece of human debris (actual siggy pic from Subsim). check that out. Ain't he handsome. See his cute girlfriend or wife or whatever, all in service to his magnificent Fuhrer? Obviously he pets his cat, hugs his woman, is harmless as a fly as he kills people to support mass murderers who put my friend's entire family to deaths worse than dogs in the Ukraine. Heck, they only killed 10 million Jews and assorted others in their death camps. What is there to get upset about.

Smile like handsome old Klaus up there and think about petting your cat and hugging your woman as you pretend your life is worth more, somehow, than those you who are being murdered by the cause you so nobly fight for. I'll bet Ted Bundy loved his dog too. Shoulda let him go and idolized him too,eh? Perhaps we could make a video game about his heroic exploits.

You know as well as I that some members of the Kriegsmarine where Nazi or Nazi supporting to think other wise is not facing reality.I am not trying to disrespect the good Germans but also realize that they where fighting for the side whose leadership was Nazi so by fighting they where supporting its causes either directly or indirectly. Again I am not trying disrespect Germans I was stationed there for several years and of German orgin myself. When you serve in a nations military you are in support of that nations modis operandi. The SS was very had to get into for much of the war so there where many who wished to join and agreed with its views but where barred form membership but still very much agreed with thier goals.

Germans are much less tolerant of this malarkey than I am. They would not permit that flag to be displayed in their country or used in a video game sold in their country. The actual U-Boat sailors, almost to a man, savagely fight any notions that they are somehow heroes, as they know that the cause they fought for made any heroism impossible. No, Germans are much less prone to Nazi worship than others, especially Americans.

German citizens were Naziism's worst victims. We don't need to lecture Germans. We need to lecture strangely misguided and perverse Americans most of all.

And what of this sig picture?

The owner of it obviously is proudly boasting of killing Japanese. He's supporting the mass murder of innocent sailors. He probably wants to drop even more nuclear weapons on them. Because of his display, I must assume that he supports the machine-gunning of survivors in lifeboats.

Either that, or he's proudly displaying the emblem of a warmongering nation that perpetrated a cowardly attack without declaring war, tried to conquer the entire Pacific region, and committed war crimes everywhere they went.

Which is it?

Or maybe we're just displaying images that add a bit of color and immersion to our submarine simulation playing personae? I seriously doubt there are many here who play SH3 just so they can be "playing Nazi wannabe." I'm willing to take a bet that you don't spend your free time running around screaming "Kill the Japs!" and trying to kill any Asian fellows you come across.

Frankly those wars ended quite a long time ago. While there are some that cling to a dead, worthless ideology, their time is past. The longer we treat these symbols as "evil", and ban them, the longer they will hold their power. Treat them as mere symbols, and they will loose that power.

Now, If talesofvalor was posting on a Jewish forum using that signature, I would agree that it was inappropriate. But he's not. He's posting on a message board for people playing a WWII German subsim. The swastika was used by those who manned the u-boats. Not everyone who manned the boats was serving just so they could be good little Nazis for their beloved Adolf. Some probably did. I'm sure many did because they saw it as a way to defend their country from their enemies. Some may have joined because of a family tradition.

As for "German citizens were Naziism's worst victims", I can think of about 12 million people who might disagree with you.

Please let's not start another war here. If I'm playing an historic simulation, I don't want the images censored for my protection. If I'm building a model of an Bf109, I don't want an iron cross replacing all the swastikas on the decal sheet. If I'm making a model of a crusader, should I use a happy face instead of a red cross? I usually find these things rather silly since I know what's missing and am not fooled. Anyone who plays SH2 or 3 knows what was in the white circle, and if that offends them, they should not play and probably don't.

History should NEVER be edited or glossed over. It should be shown in all of it's beauty and ugliness, splendor and depravity. Otherwise it becomes mere propaganda for someones agenda.

Well said.....from a Civil War Re-enactor from the South. They're people that don't need the facts glossed over and know stupidity from reality.

Plus, we always show up for the Civil War movies. I loved dying 4 times in Gettysburg.

RockinRobbins is right the Germans that I knew in the 5 years that I was stationed over there do not tolerate such a thing.Rockinrobbins is not talking about glossing over history rather the strange pick and choose glorifiaction of it.there is nothing to admire about any of the WWII era Nazis or thier military. do not forget that if you are an american or a brit their goal was to kill you. They likey tried to kill your father or grand father.
Hell my Great uncle a 1st born german american was taken POW by a regular German army unit the "good" guys he over heard them speaking in german planning on killing my unlce and the other americans my uncle told the others and they made a break it for only he and one other made back to the allied lines and those where not SS or these where the so called "good" guys.

And after the Jews and other "un wanted" the germans where the biggest victim of the Nazis.

For the record you cant display anything Nazi related in public in germany but they are very well educated in school about what thier nation did in WWII. Unlike some other nations.
I also fail to see how anyone could get an idea from seeing RockinRobbins battle flag that he is promoting killing japanese in life boats the real USS Barbs flag is equaly agressive and Fluckley frowned on killing japanese who wished to surrender or any un-needed killing of Japanese as did belive or not many skippers.the diffrence with the two flags is this the Nazi flag directly stands for something no mistakes about it. An ameraicn kill flag says only one thing directly this is how many japanese vessels that we have sunk. Does it show a buck tooth slant eyed "jap" no.Nazism is a seed that gets planted and honestly even if you display a sig with the Nazi flag or nazi embles in it and mean nothing supportive someone who does will see it and the idea gets out and it simply spreads the diease around and there is planety of disgusting Neo-Nazi redric spreading around as we speak.
You guys are flipping Rockinrobbins dislike of this type of sig into a pile of crap.
