It was at least 4 1/2 to 5 inches long from end to end. Living in Connecticut, I had NEVER seen a spider so big. This thing could have taken down mice !! It seemed to work on the bush every night and was pretty industrious with it. There was always new tunnels and passages popping up and it spent the day sittling in it's typical spot right on top of the bush sunning itself. We called it "Betha".
The coccooned bush remained for that summer getting more and more coccooned until winter. Then, the next year, the bush got cocccconed again and the giant was back.
The third year, it didn't come back though.

It was completely freaky seeing the entire bush wrapped up like that in the span of one night. You could only see a few branches sticking out. It must have been exhausting work for the thing, not to mention all the silk the thing had to poop out.
After all that know wonder it died in two years.
