Default How to find which shells AI BB's use?

I typed out a long explanation as to why I was trying to find this info, but after I read it I got confused myself so I will try to make it short and simple this time.

Question of the day...

How do I find out which ammo/shell is used for the AI Ships.. For example if I want to find which shell is being fired from Iowa's main guns, how would I go about doing that.

I'm not completlely inept although I haven't been modding SH4 very long, I should be able to find what I'm looking for with some guidance from you veterans..

If like you state an AI ship and not a playable one it is very simple.

1. Go to the Data/Sea folder and find the ship
2. Open the ship.eqp file to find the guns it is using.
3. Open S3D and go to Data/Library/ShipParts/guns_radars.dat or 02.dat or 03.dat and open with S3D.
4. Find the right gun, copy the ID.
5. Open the guns_radars.sim file and "Edit/find" the wpn_Cannon (click the plus sign and highlight the node that opens.)
6. Look in the box at the right for "ammo storage" click the + and it will list the AP, HE, AA and SS that the gun uses.
7. Select the ammo you want to know for example AP and select "shell=" at the bottom of that window will be a box that says "Value" with the shell ID in it. Copy that ID.
8. In Data/Library/ open the Shells.dat and "Edit/find" the shell using the ID you just copied.

If you want to change the shell used, copy the ID of the shell you want and paste it into the "value" box in step 7. Recommend you set this up as a MOD so you can enable or disable it. OR at least save a backup of what you are changing. Remember since you are changing a value in 'guns_radars.dat' it will affect ALL ships that use this gun, and it may cause problems for mods that make changes in 'guns_radars.dat' (or the 02.dat or 03.dat, whichever one it is in).

Thank you very much Peabody.

Thats just what I needed.. I'm on my 5th patrol with the Yamato 1.5, now that I have figured out which guns are being used by those pesky allied task forces.

Thanks once again
