You have answered your own question.

You try to sweep that issue aside but that's the main reason why people use GWX over many other supermods. The design of GWX is such that if you can run Stock 1.4b, you can run GWX. Any mod that allows the less fortunate, in terms of hardware owned, to play, is always going to be popular.

Building a supermod is not just about shiny high res graphics or the gameplay changes that it introduces, it's about finding new/unique ways to incorporate the best of the best whilst still allowing the community to enjoy your efforts.

Besides, most of the GW team had really sh*t PC's when they started building their original creation. Where's the fun in making something that you can't play.
