Probably a good idea. Glad the DHS is concerned with different threats.

Disgruntled military was the term used in the referenced document.

One more reason to ensure that our troops are sufficiently gruntled at all times.

McVeigh DID serve in the Gulf war. And do you think the Dept. of Homeland Security just decided to pull the idea of concern with "returning military vets" out of their ass? I wouldn't think so....

epic fail.

Well if they are expressing concerns about this I'd like to volunteer to be among the first to say that I fit the profile. I swore to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, and I will protect it and the American people from all threats, both foreign and domestic, with my life.
The U.S. Constitution was designed to limit the power of the state and guarantee individual freedom. Should it ever be thwarted, I will endeavor to destroy the state.
There you have it. My very own "John Hancock". I will fight the U.S government if it comes to that. It is my right as a citizen and my responsibility as a serviceman. And I will train others to fight.
If the state ever uses force to violate the freedoms that they are forbidden to infringe upon in the Bill of Rights, I will use force to protect them. Deadly force if it is required.
I do not serve the Federal Government. I serve only the American people and the Constitution. Where the Constitution requires obeisance to the Federal Government, I will honor it. However, its' only authority is that granted by the Constitution and if the Constitution is violated, the Federal state will become a hostile entity.

So I say this to the Federal Governement; You had damn well better be worried about people like me. There are millions of us. We have arms and we will never surrender them to you. You cannot ever lull us into a false sense of security because we are eternally vigilant of your machinations.
Be wary of us. If you fail us, if you fail to abide by your Constitutional bounds, we will end you.

The type of person who wants to keep their guns isn't the kind of person that the government is worried about.

The government is worried about the kind of guy who wishes that Flight 93 had hit its target on 9/11 (see the article). They're worried about the kind of person who can't tolerate having a black President. They're worried about the kind of person who thinks that Hitler wasn't half bad. They're worried about the sorts of people who want to use the skills they acquired to defend this country to do harm to it. They're worried about the kind of people who think that they'll help this country by killing hundreds of innocent people by blowing up a federal office building in the middle of the country.

Domestic terrorism is a real threat, from both the left and the right. It's wrong to think that somebody can't be a terrorist just because they're form the same part of the political spectrum as you.

@Lance
Did you read the article?
Imagine some EXTREM right/left/whatsoever winger commits a serious crime (terrorism, murder, etc.) and later it was found out that the government had not seen it coming at all, what would happen? Everyone would be mad how the FBI and other authorities could have missed that. But to have intel (sp?) you have to have groups under surveillance. EXTREMIST groups preferably because they are usually the first ones to use violence to achieve their targets.
Why right wing groups should be spared from this is beyond me. Here in Germany we have some problems with both left and right wing radicals. They both DO commit crimes ranging from propaganda over destroying property over bodily injury to murder. So the BKA (German FBI) keeps an eye on both.
