I personally like starting with the 688i. I find the waterfall displays a LOT easier to grasp and handle than the Kilo or Akula sonars. When I've taught platforms to people, pretty much everyone has had the easiest time learning the 688i than anything else for starters.

Oh. Make sure you patch up to version 1.04 and grab the LWAMI mod too !

Did you have the target classified on the map ? Torpedoes won't fire unless the target is classified as hostile UNLESS you set the weapon for a "Slapshot".

I tried the snapshot. I got blown up.

This is going to take some time. But that's why I bought it.

I thank all of you and maybe in a year or two from now I might be able to answer a question or two for somebody else. :rotfl:

Thx again to all

I see that you've already received the correct answer, but since I called out another subsimmer for this, I feel I should say something for the sake of consistency. Let's see if I can do this without being "jerkish.":rotfl:

I'll begin with this quote:

Basic Launch Procedure

1. Assign a target to a tube in the Target Display and assign Present values, then find the corresponding tube number in the Launch Panel.

2. Click F to flood the tube.

3. Click E to equalize the water pressure in the tube.

4. Click M to open the muzzle door. The tube number and the interlock (I) lights are illuminated indicating the weapon is ready to fire.

5. Click FIRE to lift the cover; click again to fire the weapon.

Quote:
Note: If you have not yet assigned a target to the tube, the FIRE button is disabled and the tube number does not illuminate. Once a target is assigned in the Target Display the tube number illuminates and the FIRE button is enabled.

Tip: If a tube number does not light up and the fire button does not respond check to make sure there is a target assigned to the tube...

While it is certainly true that at times, the manual is hard to understand or that information is hard to find, that is not the case here. The problem here involved issues all occuring at the Fire Control station, and the information is located in the Kilo Section, Fire Control station chapter, under a subheading for Basic Launch Procedure. The instructions that if followed, would have avoided the problem is #1 on a numbered step-by-step list of simple instructions. There are TWO highlighted tips provided specifically placed there because SCS anticipated that someone might make this mistake.

Today, you've successfully been able to cut a corner and get your answer from a charitable member of the forum, and that has probably been to your benefit in the short term. Perhaps this sends a message to you that cutting corners will continue to be of benefit to you as you try to learn the sim. But, I urge you to consider that the time you save by not reading the manual will be lost by the time you waste fumbling with the stations and waiting for responses here, not to mention the frustration you'll experience in the process. It is far more efficient to learn the basics with the resources SCS has given you, and then to use us when particular problems and issues come up (and they will, and we'll help you if we can). With DW, you get out of it what you put into it.

Best of luck.
