U-511 (Type IXC)
Reception in honor of the sailors of U-511 in Penang Penang 1943 Sold to Japan at Kure, Japan on 16 Sept, 1943 and became the Japanese submarine RO 500. Surrendered at Maizuru in August 1945.

I may be wrong, but isn't that a Type II submarine, not the type VIIA that U-31 was? I only count 3 bow tubes.
Compare with the Type II submarine Vesikko: The Bundesarchiv might have labeled it wrong? Anyway, THANKS FOR SHARING all these images U796!

At 12.35 hours on June 27 1943, the outbound boat was strafed and attacked with four depth charges by the British Sunderland aircraft U-523 (Type IXC) U-524 (Type IXC) Sunk 22 March, 1943 south of Madeira, Portugal, in position 30.15N, 18.13W, by depth charges from a US Liberator aircraft

Sunk 23 July, 1943 in the mid-Atlantic south of the Azores during support of U-648, in position 35.25N, 27.56W, by depth charges from Avenger aircraft (VC-9) of the US escort carrier USS Bogue. 40 dead and 13 survivors.

Sunk 11 May, 1943 in the North Atlantic south-west of Ireland, in position 46.55N, 14.44W, by depth charges from a British Handley Page Halifax aircraft (Sqdn. 58/D) and by depth charges from the British sloop HMS Fleetwood. 11 dead and 45 survivors. U-530 (Type IXC-40) Surrendered in the Mar del Plata, Argentina on 10 July, 1945. Scuttled during tests on 28 Nov, 1947 north-east of Cape Cod, by a torpedo.
