saving game while ship in sight

Today I had my first CTD when trying to open a saved game with a small merchant 9000 m in fornt of me. I read somewhere that saving such a game may cause the contact ship to disappear and what is more I remember having such saves on my previous career. NYGM 3.2+IABL ships. No changes to files were done between saving and opening. Just normal pc restart. I managed to load a previous save, sink sth save the game and load it so I think it was caused by that contact. Did anyone have similar bug?

CTD tends to occur if you save a game close to land, near a convoy (often as far as 50 Km), underwater, close to ships and in harbor.
Don't do it.
