The config file basically an eye candy file and a reference point for the menu buttons. I found that out when I was setting the submarine drafts to match the pictures of subs. Not being the sharpest pencil in the box, I played with the surface depth for a long time before I realized it only affected the depth the sub came to when the surface button was used. No matter how small you make the number the sub will not come farther than the draft allows.

lots of stuff in there does things, the speed settings decide how the engines power ratios are done in the game.

the max depth setting will tell the game where to put the red needle on the depth guage. now the sub seams to stop going below that needle but i dont know if its the needle its working off of to do that or if its the cfg number.

im not sure but i think it also renders the ships size based on the cfg numbers but i never really checked that but just to be safe i made sure the numbers were accurate anyway.

and also some stuff in it does absolutely nothing like you said so its a mixed bag

I took the S-18 for spin today and got her to 125 meters.

I set the dive to 133 meters and when she past the stated crush depth of 122 I blew the tanks. glass was breaking and crewmen were fixing god knows what but she made it to the surface. Checked the damage screen which listed 0 damage. Then I took her to max operating depth of 85 meters. Hidden damage kicked in and she could not hold the depth and sank. So my theory is the clock starts ticking damage wise once you go below max operating depth and crush depth does not crush you.

I equate max operating depth to 70% of stated crash depth in the zone file.

As far as what is crush depth goes, Odds are you will sink before you crush. IE. the force exerted on the hull is so great that it pops a hatch or two or all of em and the boat sinks and never really crushes.

Anyways thats my story and I am sticking to it.

yes crushing stops the split second the hull breaches because the pressure instantly equalizes and thats what kills you, the instant pressure change

well i hope you get this all sorted out because it looks good so far.

as for sinking from flooding and not crushing, have you tried testing 0.01 for crush time or maybe 0.001?

any leak at that depth should be like a dam bursting so its like instant death from the pressure change before you know the waters even coming in (history channel lol)

i wonder if you could do an end run by adding a controller that maxed out your hit points when crush depth is triggered?

Good idea about the damage speed. I ll test that next.

So what would happen if you set surface ships crush depth deeper and crush damage slower? Would that alone cause ships to sink slower?

not sure how that would work because its not underwater and any setting that shallow might get problems in rough seas likes ships sinking by themselves

as for controlling the sinking of ships im told the key to sink ships is how you control flooding times for each zone, but then you get into ships with messed up and missing damage zones and that a whole new headache lol
