now german deck guns must be different because the gun and shell sizes look like they match unless i got these wrong?

88mm gun = 88mm shells

105 gun = 105mm shells
The deckguns for the subs are in the GerSubParts and USSubParts. and the 3_50 is a 3inch/50caliber gun, but it does not use a 3 inch shell. It actually uses a 88mm shell.
The US guns are 3/50, 4/50, and 5/25. The only one listed for uboat is the 105mm. The type XVIII doesn't have a deckgun on it.

To check the shells go to the USSubParts, pick the gun.sim and wpn_cannon, on the right is ammo storage and you find the shells there. Open for example the AP and it says shell=##########. select that, and at the bottom is a value, that is the ID that should match the ID in Shell.dat file.
The shell.dat ID should match a parent ID in the shell.sim file. And the shell.sim ID should match a Parent ID in the shell.zon file.

One thing you want to make sure is that you are in the right window when you do the "Find". For example you click in the shell.dat file and then open the shell.sim file and do a find but since the shell.dat is the last window you clicked it, it may be searching in the .dat file and not the .sim. So make sure you paste the ID into the "Find" box, then click somewhere in the .sim file and then select "find next". Same for the zon, make sure you click somewhere in the .zon window after you paste into the "find" box but before you click "find next" And make sure 'direction' is set to "all' not just up or down.

Just for info:
The US 3/50 uses an 88mm shell
The US 4/40 uses the 105mm
The US 5/25 uses the 5_25 shell

Don't ask me, I didn't write it.

The Uboat 105mm uses the 105mm

If you are not finding links, I would suspect you are searching the wrong window. So make sure you paste into "find" THEN click in the window BEFORE you click "Find Next".
