Ok, this may sound silly but I never really put any thought into it before today. The map you get with SH3, it shows shipping and convoy routes, if playing the game are you more likely to see a ship within those routes ?
And when mods are created like GWX etc do they continue to use the stock sailing path ? I know it sounds silly but I am working on some intelligence reports for DGW - Real Time Patrols and I need to know if the marked routes are actually used in stock game and modded. Thanks |

Good question Sharkley
![]() I won't speak for GWX but in stock SH3 yes those routes are good if you wait long enough. |

Thanks, that was my hope.
I'll assume that in GWX it is the same as they must be loosley based on historical information.. ( I hope ) Cheers ! |

I seem to remember apost from Jimbuna that GWX tweeked those a little bit and that they might not be too reliable.
I still generally use them though, right or wrong. There is a mod out there that puts them on your in game map when zoomed out. ![]()

Cool, like I said they are for "Intelligence Reports" They don't need to be 100% heck even 30% correct would be great..
Thanks for the reply..man I love this site !! |

As well as adding 'unmarked' routes, GWX does follow those routes marked on the map loosely.
![]() IIRC, there is a randomised radius on each waypoint that a convoy in GWX follows, which would mean that a convoy could be somewhere around +/- 250km (ish, not sure) from that imaginary line.

Convoys were given designations which indicated their origin and destination (for instance an 'HX' convoy was one that went from Halifax to Britain), but the route they planned to travel in between these points was determined by the current intelligence situation. In fact, the route of a convoy was often altered while at sea as a result of information about u-boat locations obtained through Ultra intercepts. While the game engine does allow for some randomization of routes, the game rarely reflects the extreme variations that took place IRL. This is one of the factors that results in too many ship sightings in the game. |
