My personnal theory is that the Yamato exists solely to suck up valuable American torpedo.

Seriously, unless it's a) In port or b) the only capital ship in the group, it's not worth wasting torps. There's usually another BB or a CV around... Go for that instead. Sank a carrier with a single torp, once... Destroyed a late war Ise with three torpedoes.

But the Yamato? Slammed 10 torps into her and she just sailled by.
