I don't know what mods you all use. But seriously in my game I had a trawler fire at me in fog before my watch officer even sighted it. The WO sighted it at 300m.
In NYGM3.2 in heavy seas overcast but during the day I was sighted by a Escort at 7000m and he fired and hit me from 6500. |

Yea that's what I thought. I know I could tweak this but as the mod installed that's what happened. I havn't played NYGM in a night attack yet. Just getting started in it. Its suppose to be set up so day attacks are harder and night attacks are easier (at least as far as getting detected visually goes) compared to stock that is.
This happened in 1940, was surprised to be one hit from 6500m also. Must be an elite crew. ![]() I decided though to leave the sensors alone for the escorts but I gave my crew better eyesight so I can maybe spot the convoy 1000 to 2000m(when there isn't fog) before they spot me so I have a chance to go around it or at least get in a position to follow until night time. Its also suppose to make a difference what your aspect is in the mod. I was probably at a 45 to 60 degree angle to the convoy when I was spotted. But then changed to a parallel course at the 7000m range. I think the escort was already coming towards me before I was at a parallel course though. I had first spotted the convoy at 7400m. By the time I could determine its course and change my course I was at 7000m. Last edited by Otto Heinzmeir; 03-22-09 at 05:49 PM. |

Nice in game senario, though I can't see a real life u-boat taking on a destroyer with a deck gun. He couldn't reload a save if it went poorly.
The one first hand account I read where a captain saw a dark silohette at close range. After realizing it was a destroyer he moved away and attacked the convoy from 1500m. I can't remember if he was surfaced or submerged at the time. |
