Reminds me of the one and only time I tried to sail to the far east in an IXB.
Spent (game) weeks (a good few real days) going around the cape and up the east coast of Africa. Fired at lots of opportune targets on the way so was running low on eels, although my fuel management had been good, so I could have made it all the way to Penang if I wanted too. Never fear, I think to myself, I'll stop off at the resupply ship near Madagascar and stock up, so I can have fun on the rest of the voyage up. Plotted a course, arrived in the area, but nothing to be found for hours. Never fear I think to myself, I've been in such situations before in the atlantic. I start a circular search pattern gradually extending outwards from the map point dot of its approx position. Still nothing. Damn scuttlebutting REMF I think to myself... and as I'm a fair radius away from the map point again, I submerge and listen on the hydro's for a while...heading back towards its approx position. Within a few minutes Herr Sonar calls out a contact BEHIND us, moving perpendicular. So I upscope...check it out, and there eventually in the hazy distance is a rather large tanker. Reddish flag fluttering. Fancy that, I think to myself...a lone british tanker all the way out here...he has NO IDEA that less then a few miles away somewhere theres a german resupply ship. ![]() Close to 4000m. Fire my last two eels. Watch her go down fairly quickly, before resuming my original search again, heading back towards the approx position on the map. I search in vain for the next 24 game hours, before I realise what I've done. ![]()
