Empire Total War uses Steam Copyprotection?

Indeed. I tried it.. pulled the network cable and started Steam in offline modus, and the game wont start.

Question , was it fully updated first? , I went to play Empire - Total war after I'd bought and installed it yesterday, and I couldn't play offline till I'd updated it.
