Didn't see a fishing boat or anything of the sort, and the destruction was instantaneous. One moment I'm trudging along, the next I'm looking at a spinning control room.

I'm starting to lean toward a strange bug, but I do suppose it could be related to a friendly vessel... They don't drop the TC, don't they?

Enlarge your map and see if there is a tiny land mass. This happened to me also in a different local a little further north in the coral sea. I was steaming back to base after patrol, but I had time compression on and "BOOM" down I went. When I zoomed my map sure enough there was a tiny spot of land I hit and wrecked my boat good. But definitely no mines in thes areas.

Frame is correct. About halfway between Fremantle and the chunk of land that sticks out north of there (where you turn to go further north or northeast) there are two small shoals. I have hit them more than once. This can happen many places in the game. After you set a course anywhere it is smart to zoom in a bit and follow your whole course to see if such shoals are in the way. Also do this when you have your navigator plot a search pattern. Sometimes small islands are hidden by your objective star.

yeah, I´ve got a map with my game when I ordered it from the UK. It´s like the one you got with SH3. It shows land, shippingroutes, Japanese aircover, minefields etc etc... Real handy, lol

Wish I could find it. I have a vague idea of where it is, but it's not in the SHIV box... The SHIII map is. Because that's logical!

After careful investigation, it seems I ran into a shoal. I'm usually a lot better at avoiding them; I guess I was just tired after a long patrol

Still extremely fricking annoying.

Look in the games root folder. The map and ship id's might be there.

My advise is: plot your course over the dark blue

Yeah, I know what shoals we are talking about here. And I allways plot my course on the dark blue as stated above.

I guess Etienne will do the same from now on, lol.

The hud mod has a good map of mine fields, ect. You probably ran into a shoal that wasn't showing above the surface. I did once, no land showing, but hit it, my boat was almost sticking straight up....
