you can go uber fast while submerged. rather than the usual 8.5 knots at flank you can about 20 plus with it which makes evading the destroyers a lot of fun.

No, or at least I doubt it unless there is a mod for it. In the U-boat expansion you get it with the 21 boat when it is offered to you. It was fun for awhile, but I went back to the 7 boat because it can kick some butt on the surface. The crew on the 21 boat can never seem to take on an attacking aircraft. I would have them walk the plank if I could.

This is from the Kockums website and includes details of the AIP ("air independent propulsion") system onboard the Swedish "Gotland," a non-nuclear SSK recently leased by the US Navy for evaluation. Appears the US is now considering non-nuclear subs for the first time since the 50's. The Gotland, taking part in fleet exercises, proved itself to be FORMIDABLE (to say the least!) |
