you can choose the angle at witch the torpedo fan opens up...
on the TDC screen (F6 i think) and look for a dial labeled something like "spread angle"
keep in mind that if you fire a spread of 2 torpedoes with a 2º angle... neither of those 2 will actually hit where your crosshair is aiming at (provided that you are using auto-targeting or your manual targeting is dead accurate).

what i'm trying to say is... that the trail a single torpedo will follow is used at the middle point to open the "spread". a 4º spread with 2 torpedoes will end with 1 torpedo being fired 2º to the left of the intended trail, and the second torp being fired 2º to the right of the intended trail. Am I makeing sense? if not... ask again
