Default DO Careers end?

Apart from going on eternal patrol, I mean. Does the game forcibly retire you at some point?

I`ve made it to June 1945, but zigged when I should`ve zagged, and got ripped a new one. I was given a new boat once, and later an offer to retire early, I turned the retirement down, probably would`ve saved me from getting killed later. Puts

If you get more pressure hull damage than 45 Uncle Charlie gives you a choice to either retire or take a really (note the REALLY) ****ty boat. As it, Balao to S42 or Porpoise.

the war ends in the game on 8/15/45, 00:00 hrs.
the three screen shots that follow are what you get, sort of anti-climatic, but thats it.
