5-10 Hours? I guess that's a good enough compromise between playability and effectiveness.

To maximize the chance of catching something on hydrophones, you want to listen yourself from a dead stop, surface, run about 40km at high speed, submerge, rinse and repeat. That translates to a hydrophone check every 65 to 90 minutes. Ofc, that's not compatible with safety in an area with frequent allied air patrols. Also, it's very tedious.

My compromise is often to check every change of sea watch, and in areas of allied air coverage I'm only sprinting on the surface when I need to recharge my batteries.
