Around the same size. Obviously better suited to coastal waters, but in their short operational history, they did very well

Yeah...the Type XXIII was the coastal version of the Type XXI. Sort of a futuristic electro-boot Type II.

Actually the type XXIII is smaller than the type II! Both in height and length with a smaller tower too! In my book Uboats in action it shows a profile of all the German subs used and I was shocked to see that the XXIII was 10\15% smaller than the type II!

Imagine how difficult that makes it to catch with an Asidc beam.

Top speed of 12 knots underwater ain't bad either. Crew of only 14 would be easy to manage. I used to replace the Type II with the XXIII in SH2 campaign game a lot. Fun.

That would've made a more interesting story-type thread, if there was a GWX-compatible playable... I may have to try out NYGM after U-1337 retires.

I beleive that there is a way to get the playable XXIII into GWX 3.0. But yes the NGYM XXIII is playable from what I have read.

I prefer the VIIC for the reasons stated above. Haven't had too much luck with the IX series; particularly the IXD2.
