A Question for fans of RSRDC

I'm rather fond of operating out of Brisbane and into the Solomons. It's a shorter distance to the action than Fremantle or Pearl.

The Taiyo class carriers were originally laid down as liners of the N.Y.K. line. They were converted while still in the stocks to escort carriers. Due to some inadequacies (no catapults or arrestor gear) they saw little action with the Japanese fleet. They were mostly used to ferry planes and train pilots. All three ships of this class were sunk by US submarines, so you're carrying on proud tradition.

You are funny Jazzabilly. Most post they can not find a dingy let alone a ship when using RSRD

Here you are saying there is so much action in RSRD! And it is true! Just got to know were to look. I always start at the beginning of the war no matter what. The proplem for me though is that some new change in a mod comes out and I drop it in the game only to have to start my career over again. I rarly get past two patrols before I have another mod to load up

Not this time though, I have the current RFB and RSRD. I'm not loading any more until the next major release of RFB comes around. Currently I'm on my second patrol having a fat time just south of Formosa! Bagged three in two days, Jan 42!

So, I have a lot to do in my upcoming patrols and a lot to sink after reading your post! I'm looking forward to getting past 2 patrols....then again, I could have by butt sunk and I play DiD thus having to start all over again.

But, yes, RSRD is certainly an integral part of SH4 I can not see playing without it. I hope and I think Lurker knows what his mod has done for this game!

AVG, I couldn't agree more.

I have had the same problem of getting in the middle of a campaign and make some kind of change requiring me to start all over again. I am now using TMO in June of 43 and I'm gonna for once, comeplete a campaign. I have heard the end of a campaign is a little dissapointing though. No big drama or parades. Oh well, we'll have done our duty anyway.

I also agree with you and Jazzabilly about RSRDC. There are some HUGE convoys if you know where and when to find them.

Oh,..almost forgot.... I usually start in early '42 because I just don't have the patience to start without radar on the boat.

SO far I've only started 2 campaigns, 41 in Pearl Harbor, and 41 in Manila,

Pearl Harbor start was a lonely lonely war, I was away hunting lone merchants, taking my boredom out on Sampans, trying to jealously ignore the radio traffic that alerted me to high action on the seas so far away they'd be over before I arrived.

So I started again, this time in Manila, and within 24 hours of starting I was sneaking up on the Battle of the Philippines invasion task force, determined to make a dent.

Enjoying the TF3 start more so far, maybe when I'm done I find out what I missed from PH / Midway

Next time you have a thought to start a career in Pearl Harbor in Dec. of '41, try hanging around the Bungo Straits.

I guarantee you'll see some nice stuff.

What did I say????? Third patrol. Sent out a spread of 4 on a Takao Heavy Cruiser. She is about 4000 yards off. Looking for the lucky shot!!! I get one in the bow and she is slowly sinking. I move in to finish her off

HA! I knew there was a reason I should be considered lucky on my recent patrol

I'd much rather have my fish bounce off the side of a target, rather than circle around and blow me up.

At least my crew lives to tar & feather the Bureau of Ordinance...

On my first patrol in the USS Cod in 43' I bagged about 10 ships. Most of which were sunk in the straights between Sulawesi island (The octopus looking one of north of Australia) and Mayalsia/Indo (the island just to the left of Sula) Beatufiul hunting ground for single contacts. Good times.

Radar makes a huge difference to my hunting tactics, makes it easier to id potential targets and close to within hunting range. Being 43' and with only 2 years left to run and my orders taking me no where near major battles I haven't yet encountered a large convoy to put my fish into. Came close to getting sunk near Rabul though, see Patrol stories/reports for the info of that encounter.
