That is a male American Gold Finch in it's winter colours. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Goldfinch They look better in summer, but you won't see them in Texas in summer. They are sometimes called "wild canaries". ![]()

Wow, you guys are good. American Gold Finch it is, nicely done. Wild canaries, yeah, that's exactly the impression I got when I saw him, he looked a little exotic for a songbird. This could be fun, plus it gives us a chance to stop arguing about politics for a while.

I would say a Junco but the red beak is throwing me off. Also, beak shape says it is a finch. Almost looks like the common house finch.
