Does anyone know a work-around or a fix to this issue?
If I remember correctly, if you will click on the little blue co2 icon that appears in the corner, it will vent.

The bigger question is why can't you load saved games?
In a perfect world yes. But it's a bug. I am surfaced, I click on the CO2 button in the upper right corner..... no go. I die anyway because it will not vent and give me fresh air.

Example.. two missions in a row now I've had to start over because of this bug.

To read about the saved games problem there are many threads on the issue. It's a well known issue with SH4 since it's release and has never been fixed.

don't alt-tab whilst in the game it causes this! save the game and then reload it, the CO2 will return to normal levels

McHub,

If you can set up your rig with 2 hard drives it's what I learned along time ago. Load the os on the main drive, and all the drivers and required junk, and on the second hard drive, I load all the stuff that I use on a regular basis. For instance, I have Drive C, contains all the Windows stuff and drivers for the hardware blah blah blah required crap. Drive D, has a folder for games, and folders for art ptrograms. The only reference to the games on C drive is the documents folder where the savegame and settings info defaults to. Both drives are setup with virtual memory so the game can access either one or both if it needs it, but since both have 100 gigs of dedicated virtual memory, I have yet to see both of them utilized completely. Hope this helps.

I know about the CO2 bug but several here click the icon to surface instead of just surfacing with the S key.

As far as saved games, I've played SH4 since it came out and have only had one corrupt save. As a matter of fact, I don't know of anyone who cant save at all. You should be able to save whenever you want. Most say not to save submerged or near action or near land. I save in whatever condition and never have any problems at all.

If you can never save a game except autosave, then something is wrong.

Nope.. just tried it.

Away from land, zero speed, zero time compression, no contacts around.... saved.

Reload.... Game save Error

Nothing.

I am completely unable to save a game ever. I've redone some missions 6 times because I can never save and hope to go back before a bad decision and restart.. I have to start from the beginning every time.

Are you running any mods? Not being able to save is a buzz kill for sure. BTW, are you running Vista?

Yes: JSGME
About 12 mods and I don't dare minimize the game because of the error I was just told about to cut/paste them here right now.

Yes on Vista.

I'm running everying with: Run as Administrator, etc.

Do you have your game installed in Program files or in a seperate folder outside of "Program Files". I too am running Vista and installing it outside the Program Files took care of a lot of problems.

Also, make sure you are running in "compatability mode".

We gotta get that fixed, that should not be happening.

Oh dear.. reinstalling would be the 7th time (so many bugs If the game wasn't insane awesome I'd have done a ritual DVD burning long ago).

I don't know if I could start all over from mission 1 for the 7th time.

I'll write down this information though and when I'm sure I come across another bug that makes the game completely unplayable.. I'll reinstall outside of Program Files.
