Sounds about right. The Type XXI was under-powered and in addition to failing to reach design speeds surfaced and submerged, recharging batteries took a very long time. See Blair, Hitlers U-Boat War Vol-1.

There is a fix in 'maiks archives' don't remember the author name, research a bit 'xxi battery and flak fix' if you find the post of that mod take the author name and go to maik archives its there uploaded.
