Who else finds it humerous that the Icelandic alphabet doesn't contain a 'c'. Surely they live in Ieland then, and are Ielandi people?

Or the spitting-lama-sound in English - the "th". A constant source of endless laughs and mumblings for us foreigners! You cant teach introductory course in fifth class at a German school, without the kids rolling over each other in laughter and spitting around like idiots.

And have you ever heard what a German throat produces in strange noise when trying to pronounce one of the most alienating words I ever heared - "squirrel"?

Belgium had a similar list until the 1980s I think, dated back to the days of Napoleon IIRC, surnames I think, since the Netherlands had surnames enforced upon it by Boney after he ran them over.

I'm sure that in their own language it all makes sense. That joke only works when you spell it in English.

They call their country Ísland. It is you illiterate Brits who write it wrong!

I didn't miss it, I just created another point next to it.

At least you don't get this in Iceland.

That is so very true...I have many friends over there and all the names have literal meanings.

Example....Johnny Von Rodenberg = Johnny from the red mountain.

I knew a South African chap with the surname of Oosthuizen, which I believe is something like east house. Before Nappy visited Rotterdam though, it was similar to Iceland for surnames, so it'd be something like Johnny Peterzoon.
