Default 3 things that annoy me about SH5

3 things that annoy me about SH5

When i am looking thru the attack scope and lower it all the way down it dosnt fully close .

When i look thru the binoculars the horizon is horizontal . When i exit back to default view the horizon slopes the the left . Binoculars agin and its horizontal , exit and its sloping to the right . I know this was fixed in SH3 .

The ship smoke resetting annoys me no end .

I'm glad it's not just me then, because I've noticed that horizon "dip" after I use binoculars too. Sometimes I have to flick back and forth between binoculars and eyes quite a few times before the horizon finally goes back to, well, horizontal. That's why we call it "horizontal", after all. The horizon "wobbling" I'm fine with. That happens in real life as I know from spending entirely too much time on heaving decks, but that's one of the reasons why your legs are tired when you get back to shore: You instinctively lean to make it horizontal again.

The ship smoke is a distraction too, I agree. But what I totally don't get is the black "blobs" of smoke that sometimes appear on the water with no ships around.

There is one more "view" problem... When you aim trough optical sight of deckgun: gun barrel waves up / down with sea surface - while sight itself stands fixed ?!?

I was wondering if some moder could repair that immersion killer...

Do you use FX Update? I get those as well and have always put it down to the same mysterious problem that prevents me from seeing oil slicks after a ship sinks. I'm pretty sure those odd blobs of 'smoke' are in fact the oil slick.

Do you see oil slicks (if you use FX Update) in your game after a sinking?

I thought it waso going to be:

1 People asking if it's fixed yet.
2 People asking if it's got a GWX mod.
3 People asking if it's equal to/better than SH 3/4.

Yes, I use the FX update. As to oil slicks, I don't recall seeing them but, then again, most of the time I'm not really looking for them. I'm usually trying to get away before Tommy's little winged friends hear of my efforts and close in on me. I'll certainly check it out more in the future.

As to the Black Smoke monster (from Lost , good one!), it will appear just about anywhere and not necessarily linked to any sinkings of mine. Of course, it could be a ship gone down due to bad weather that I didn't know of. It's an interesting idea. I think I'll cruise by one of the scenes of my larger massacres to see if there are smoke monsters present. If so, that would be spooky! Ghosts of Victims Past!

Interesting, yeah let me know if you do/don't, would you? I've mentioned this to TDW but he couldn't figure it out, and he has much bigger priorities now in the GR2 editor, so it'd be nice if we could get it figured out

Hi Orpheus,

I think the white patches that you are seeing may be the air bubble effect.
This happens after a torp hit and during sinking

Have you tried the Enchanced Funel Smoke-mod? I'm using it and the nasty smoke resetting is gone. Nice, big smokes, no troubles.

Okay, here comes my current list:

1. Planes dissappear when destroyed
2. No dud-torpedoes
3. Dive command doesn't work always (probably mod soup thing)

I have found the generous success rate rather entertaining. Not so much because it guarantees kills as it is me laughing at the engine making shots I know full well should fail or dud in any other SH game or in real life. Conversely, as much as I would like to see the return of the realistic dud rate, I do not miss the "American" dud rate from Silent Hunter III either. The games do not appear to take into account that certain torpedo models were worse than others (Electric torpedoes suck) as opposed to the American's only option; the craptastic Mk 14 Torpedo. That thing is Dud Incarnate, manufactured by Bernard and approved by Murphy.

I think that the smoke is not resetting . When the water drops appear on the screen the rendering is baulking the rendering engine and the animations dont get rendered . I think this game doesnt like .dat files sometimes .

1. Yes, the smoke is reseting with water drops and it's really annoying, imersion killer...this is a sub game and see smoke at horizon is a big part of the game. This must be fix.

2.I have oil slick and dud torpedos, at least have saw them sometimes.

3. that black fog monster cames from Lost series....Have saw it with certain frequency, but goes out quick..

4.optical deckgun propably can move with sea movement (desestabilized view) easily adjusting some parameters on cameras files (at least was this way that we did on SH3)

Really? Can somebody take a look and estimate the option to fix it ?!?

I would be delighted to finally have realistic deck-gun optic sight movement with sea & deck.

Anybody???????

Yes, I noticed this too, and initially it irritated me terribly. I found that, if you exit from binocular view while looking straight upwards (to the clouds), it alleviates the issue a lot.

I got rid of the resetting smoke when I started to use HanSolo78's Enchanced Funnel Smoke mod, try it out: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=166121

This sounds interesting, I never ever get any duds from the stock ships (premature detonations work). Could some mod overwrite them??

I tried to get rid of the deck gun horizon stabilisation maybe a year ago, but didn't succeed. There are still some threads about it I think.
