Default SH 5: Is it worth it?

With no internet connectivity other than dial up through ATT, and this DRM feature, it doesnt sound like I will be able to play this game. It looks great but what are the major problems you guys have found with it and are most people just going back to SH 3 GWX etc?

You can't connect via a dial up modem, hopefully in the future a DRM free version will be released, I too am in the same boat!

DRM? You're probably right. If you don't have a constant good connection you're out of luck.

Thanks guys. Is there a remote possibility that a DRM free version will be released and can that be done with the features the game has?

If I recall correctly there are (were?) plans to release a DRM free version about a year or so after initial retail launch? I don't remember where I read this though, I know it was for an Ubi game that utilizes this newfangled DRM system of theirs.

They state right in their User Agreement thingy that they will remove the DRM when it has outlived its usefulness. Or something to that effect. It has been posted before by someone who has actually read it.

If that's the case it should have been released by now!

Good point. Unfortunately the actual meaning is "When WE say it has outlived its usefulness.

Why oh why do people not read the rules for this forum - or is that they just ignore them?

I think that 'I tried it at a friend's house' is fast becoming a euphemism.

If only I could get a hundred hours entertainment out of reading posts like that for free, but alas I can't - it's just a good job that it's not illegal.

In relation to OP: SH4 is a good DRM free alternative.

Let's face it:

Fact 1: They wont remove anything.

Fact 2: New generation gamers will adapt to this lack of freedom (Only old generations react to such radical changes, but they will fade away with time)

Fact 3: If you don't pay for the game because they wont remove the DRM, they will lose customers and the game will be shut down, just like microsoft shut down microsoft flight simulator (Which have been going since early 80's)

Don't be too sure, they might just do it. They might shut it down. Where are we going to get a similar good submarine simulator if not ubisoft is making it.

The game is developed by ubisoft romania, europeans. God help us if the future of sub simulation falls into the hands of americans.

We should appreciate that there is a simulation in the first place. It was a hard enough blow for me that microsoft shut down fs series. I know how it feels like when it happens. It's unreal.

Let's not try to destroy this fine series because of the drm.

Now THAT is just down right insulting!

And you should Capitalize the 'A' in americans.

Since Aces Of The Deep and the original Silent Hunter, which are still regarded by many as the best submarine simulations ever, were both developed by American groups, I think you owe us a major apology.
