I've been reading up here on how the damage model is not good on the stock game, as in ships not sinking, needing 3- 5 torpedo's or keep on sailing, etc.
Can someone give me a few tips on what absolute must-have mods I should install right out of the bat ? any input much appreciated! |

I completely avoided any mode that alter in any way the UI nor graphics. In my opinion the most important mods are only those that deal with AI and the known bugs. This because if is something well done and finished in SH5, thats the graphic part. The rest is a mess and that need mods to make the game playable.
After I bought the game I played it few days without any modification just to see what is bugged and what not. After that I started to search the moding forum and download those that deal with the bugs discovered. My advice to any beginner is to do the same. Later on when you get more familiar with the game, you can add more and more mods to fit SH to your needs and play style. |

Mirrored my response to this from the official boards here:
Quote:
UI Mods - pretty much essential. TheDarkWraith's MultiUI with minimal Dials TDC - This will entirely change the game for you. A full UI conversion which adds much missing functionality and a lot of entirely new features. Church's SH5 Keys keymapping - this restores SH3's keymappings people might be more familiar with and restores a lot of missing keymaps (some of which are fixed in today's patch). Gameplay mods Better and Realistic Floating and it's sister mod Damage Assessment - these mods improve damage to targets meaning they'll sink by flooding, slow down when hit and other nice features that are missing in stock. There's other gameplay mods I use too, but many are being fixed with the fabled 1.2 patch (things like morale and command type mods.) Graphics mods Pretty much everything from Ailantd! - AilRain, AilWhiteInterior (paired with sober's cream flooring) and AilClouds are the ones I use, but all his mods are beautiful! HanSolo's Enhanced Funnel Smoke - this makes a huge difference. Engine type specific funnel smoke mod, really nice. 1000m bearing overlay - this is a overlay with a compass around your sub while you're zoomed in. Mighty Fine Crew - a sound and animation mod which fixes a lot of crew animations and brings in things like the crew climbing the ladders when you dive/surface, bearded men and other nice changes. and the most important mod of all: Reboot's Hot Soup - this adds steam to the soup pot in the galley. ![]() There's of course more mods available and desirable, but looking over what I have installed, these are the ones I consider most important. |

Yeah, just browse the Mod forum and take what you like. You can add and remove mods at will with the greatest ease, so feel free to just grab interesting stuff as you see it.
