Recently, Ubisoft broke the one billion mark in annual sales. That is very good. It shows healthy growth and gives us some perspective on the size of the company and its success.
This solid institution must have some long range planning.

Last week, with the announcement it will use OSP in its future games, Ubisoft revealed the first step to what they want in the world of gaming—Total control of its customers.

This goes in the grand tradition of large corporations who have decided big brother knows best what is good for the consumer.

I don’t know if Ubisoft management had time to congratulate themselves before they felt the first bump of opposition. A lonely voice at Subsim alerted members of the nefarious plan. This created an explosion of protest.

Meanwhile, other less urgently concerned voices also rose in protest. Opposition to OSP grew throughout the internet.

Despite this, Ubisoft remained silent as the protests grew into a firestorm across cyberspace

Like all large corporations, Ubisoft is not a nimble organization, Personalities busy on maneuvering in the jungle of office politics have better things to do than solving urgent problems. Meanwhile, the palace is burning and the galaxy of forums dealing with the many Ubisoft games are buzzing.

Stand back, everyone, stand back. You don’t want the burning edifice to crumble on top of you.
