Great overview of the Mall, cant believe how many people showed up but thats to be expected. Expectations for Prez Obama are high. Though my only experience is that which Fallout 3 allows you, and its crawling with Super mutants so I tend to avoid it.

Geoeye is the company that took that photo, they have more at their website: http://www.geoeye.com/CorpSite/gallery/Default.aspx

Some of them are really cool.

Gaah! That makes my skin crawl.
The city looks like some giant hive with the great swarms of bodies.

Reminds me of a scene from some zombie movie, you the kinda angle some have where they show them zombies rushing thru the streets from air.

May lawn is a lush color of tan. In all reality, the grass on the mall is bad even in summer. People are on it all the time. But, that is what the mall is for. The mall and all the museums are on the top 10 list for me concerning favorite places to go. My kids love the Museum of Natural History. Air and Space Museum for me Parking sucks though

When I went there with some Army buddies to visit the Vietnam and Korean war memorials we parked in Maryland and took the train in to Union Station. That worked out pretty well for us.

If you can get to the mall about 0800, you can find parking right on the mall. Last time we went, we parked behind the Washington Monument. We arrived about 1000. It was a long walk but we did get to see the WW2 Memorial that was just completed. So, the walk paid off in the end.

First thing that came to mind to me, too. Ants looking for some juicy crumbs at a picnic.

You can also take the metro or subway to the Smithsonian.. this ways you are right on the mall.
We usually drive to Shady Grove and take a train from there. Less stressful and no hassle with parking and cruising around in DC. But still some walking to do, non the less.
